24-hour messaging window - Instagram Glossary

The 24-hour window is Meta's rule that a business may send messages freely for 24 hours after a user's most recent message. Outside that window, only a limited set of tagged message types is allowed. It is the single most important constraint in Instagram DM automation.

The window resets every time the user sends a message, which is why automations that provoke a reply are worth more than ones that broadcast. A sequence designed to elicit a response keeps the conversation legally open; one designed to push information runs out of permission in a day.

Tools that appear to work around it are usually doing one of two things: using a permitted message tag correctly, which is fine and limited, or sending through an unofficial route that risks the account. If a vendor cannot tell you which of those it is, that is the answer.
