Shadowban - Instagram Glossary

Shadowban is the informal term for a sharp, unexplained drop in reach, usually attributed to a hidden penalty. Instagram does not use the word, but it does restrict distribution for content flagged against its Recommendations Guidelines, which produces the same effect.

Most self-diagnosed shadowbans are not penalties at all. They are a post that underperformed, followed by the normal consequence: reduced distribution on the next few posts while the system recalibrates. Genuine restriction usually follows something specific - recycled content, a flagged hashtag, aggressive follow-unfollow behaviour, or automation that Instagram detects as inauthentic.

You can check for the real version. Settings has an Account Status page that names any content flagged as non-recommendable. If it says nothing, the reach drop is performance, not punishment. If it names something, remove that post rather than posting more to compensate.
