Collab post - Instagram Glossary

A collab post is a single Instagram post published to two accounts simultaneously, appearing in both feeds and grids with shared likes, comments and view count. It is the most direct way to put content in front of another account's followers without paying for it.

The mechanic is genuinely powerful because the post reaches both follower graphs as an original post rather than a share. Engagement pools rather than splits, which means the combined signal is stronger than either account would have generated alone, and distribution widens accordingly.

The failure mode is mismatched audiences. A collab with an account whose followers have no interest in your subject produces high reach and no follows, and can dilute your interest signal for a few posts afterwards. Relevance of the partner matters considerably more than their follower count.
